Here are some pictures of how to tell if your sectional garage door spring is broken.
The photo on the left shows the spring intact, which is what it should look like. The photo below and to the left indicates that the spring has snapped and you can see the break in the spring in the photo below and right.
If your garage door spring is broken do not continue to use your garage door as it is unsafe and can cause more damage to your door and motor. Sectional door springs generally last 7-10 years and your door should be serviced by a trained professional every 12-24 months.
